Introduction
The Palliative & End of Life Care Network is a multidisciplinary group that brings together representatives across health and social care and the third sector to improve the quality of care and support for people living receiving palliative and end of life care in Grampian.
Who are we?
Our Network is made up of individuals representing organisations who want to work with us to achieve improvements in the health and wellbeing of the Grampian population. This involves coordination across acute care, primary care, and community services to address the holistic needs of people in Grampian receiving palliative and end of life care.
The Strategic Advisory Group has oversight of this network, coordinating and supporting strategic and operational activities. Members of the Palliative & End of Life Care Network have diverse roles and backgrounds but share a common goal to enhance services and enable teams to provide person-centred care.
What do we do?
A network approach is central to palliative and end of life care within Grampian. The role of the Strategic Advisory Group is to provide a forum of expertise which can be a source of advice and support in the development and delivery of high quality palliative and end of life care. The Strategic Advisory Group, along with the Palliative Care Education Group, and Core Leads Group, meet quarterly to deliberate on and advance key initiatives while also receiving regular updates on service issues and consideration of local, regional and national developments.
What are our priorities?
- To provide high-level strategic guidance to the Grampian health and care system including oversight of the Palliative and End of Life Care Strategic Framework.
- To agree and review the Strategic Framework delivery plan.
- To scrutinise and advise on performance and quality indicators.
- To progress work on priority issues identified across Grampian.
- To ensure a coherent and equitable approach is taken to palliative and end of life care across Grampian, taking account of local, regional and national priorities.

Educational Events
One of the key goals of the Palliative & End of Life Care Network is to offer education and learning opportunities to support our informed and knowledgeable health & care colleagues to continue to offer the best levels of care to those requiring palliative and end of life care. As part of this objective, the network organises an annual conference as well as other ad-hoc education events to support the professional development of our colleagues and partners.
The Grampian Palliative & End of Life Care Network Professional Conference is designed to enhance knowledge and skills while providing attendees with the opportunity and space for networking, where both challenges and successes in palliative care can be shared and learned from.
