Introduction

The Diabetes MCN is a multidisciplinary group that brings together representatives across health and social care and the third sector to improve the quality of care and support for people living with diabetes in Grampian.

Who are we?

Our Network consists of individuals representing teams and organisations who want to work collaboratively to achieve improvements in the health and wellbeing of the Grampian population.

The Diabetes MCN Board has oversight of this MCN, coordinating and supporting both strategic and operational activities.  Network members have a variety of roles and backgrounds, but collectively seek to advance measures and services that will help teams offer increasingly person-centred levels of care with an emphasis on equity, innovation and intelligence-led care.

What do we do?

A network approach is central to Diabetes service developments within Grampian. The Grampian Diabetes MCN will support the principles and aims of NHS Grampian through development of a local strategy to meet the needs of people living with diabetes in Grampian. The Diabetes MCN Board and Executive Group meet quarterly to deliberate on and advance key initiatives, while also receiving regular updates on service issues and consideration of local, regional and national developments. Key areas of work include participation in policy development, service planning, and supporting local services. This includes prescribing guidance and the utilisation of data and information to facilitate strategic planning, service improvement and education.

What are our priorities?

  • To offer high-level strategic guidance to NHS Grampian, including the creation and updating of a Strategy for Diabetes Services, as well as the development and monitoring of keys actions and priorities.
  • Work with regional and national planning groups as appropriate to progress priority issues as appropriate.
  • To ensure a coherent and equitable approach is taken to the development of Diabetes services across Grampian, taking account of local and national priorities.
  • Review available data use this to inform strategic planning and service developments.

Educational Events

One of the key goals of the Diabetes MCN is to offer education and learning opportunities to support our informed and knowledgeable health & care colleagues to continue to offer the best levels of care to people living with diabetes in Grampian. As part of this objective, our Diabetes MCN organises an annual conference as well as other ad-hoc education events to support the professional development of our colleagues and partners.

The Grampian Diabetes MCN Professional Conference is designed to enhance knowledge and skills while providing attendees with the opportunity and space for networking, where both challenges and successes in diabetes care can be shared and learned from.
